XM Satellite Radio
Satellite is rapidly becoming one of those "Got To Have" items for those on the road for any significant amount of time. XM currently has 100 channels of music, talk and news stations with few if any commercial interruptions. On the road you can go anywhere and still have that crystal clear reception that only those in the big cities typically get to enjoy.
For you guys out there, it has ESPN, ESPN News, The Sporting News, and Fox Sports channels. You can keep up with all of those football games with this system. It also has stations such as the Discovery Channel, Entertainment News, Old Time Radio Shows, and even two Comedy channels.
It has music stations for each decade since we have had broadcast radio music. Also specialty channels of a wide variety including Frank's Place for Sinatra music, Folk Music, Hard Rock, and Classical stations.
The unit itself has a display that shows the music selection title plus the artist name. It is small and mounts practically anywhere on your dash while operating through an FM radio station. Kind of like when you hookup a VCR or DVD player to your television and change to channel 3 to view a movie. The antenna is small with no rod at all and mounts at the rear roof of your car.
The only reason this product does not get a 10 rating is because their only competitor, Sirius Satellite Radio, has just signed a deal with the NFL to broadcast all of their games next season. In this respect, Sirius has been more aggresive in improving their product and expanding programmming variety. The programming on XM has not changed at all in the almost year I have had it in my car.
At this time it costs a couple of hundred dollars to purchase and install plus the programming package is about $10 a month. I think Sirius is about $12 a month making it a little more expensive.
Be careful if you decide to try it because once you have it you are going to be hooked. Good Stuff.
