nvestagata writes "There are people who can walk away from you. And hear me when I tell
you this! When people can walk away from you: LET THEM WALK!
I don't want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving
you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached
to you. I mean hang up the phone.
When people can walk away from you,LET THEM WALK. Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left. The bible said that, they came out from us
that it might be made manifest that they were not for us. For had they
been of us, no doubt they would have continued with us. [1 John 2:19]"

It is Monday afternoon and due to a break at work I got home early today at around 5:00 p.m. Without wasting too much time I changed clothes and fixed a cold coke on ice to sit down and ponder what this column tonight would be about. A few ideas were rolling around in my head, but nothing I had latched onto yet. That is soon to change. The phone rings and when I pick it up, Mother is on the other end and says: “There has been a big fire in downtown Kerens. Aunt Bobby is downtown right now watching buildings burn down.”

rrandyghughes writes "If you ever go on a Sunday drive. visit Richland Chambers Lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in Navarro County. It is the third largest lake in the state of Texas. Many people call it home. We are very lucky to have this beautiful lake in our backyard so to speak. It has many nice eating places around the lake. It is also a nice place for a family to live. "

Local News: Trying to regain contact with Delores Rogers daughter of Lena Cordell Wilkins
|
|
jyates writes "I'm trying to regain contact with Delores Rogers, daughter of Lena Cordell Wilkins of Kerens. I'm sorry to find out that Mrs. Wilkins has passed away, but the email address I had for Delores bounces back as no good and I would love to regain contact with her. Mrs. Wilkins was the grand daughter of my great great great grandfather A.L. Cordle "Cordell" to the folks around Kerens. He and Mr and Mrs. Wilkins and some Cordells are interred out at the Long Prairie cemetery south of Kerens.
If anyone knows how to contact Delores Rogers please give her my email:

Thanks,

rrandyghughes writes "Hurricane Ike left a lot of damage and destuction in its wake on the Texas Coastal Region. The Red Cross and other volunteer agencies give so much to help displaced people that were left homeless by this terrible storm. Corsicana was very lucky, but other towns suffered. Please volunteer or give of your time or money to help people in need. We are our Brothers keeper."

I must warn you before you read this story that it is all about me. Duh; and all about doctors and ailments, and prescription drugs.
About fourteen years ago, I was having debilitating bouts with “Chemical Depression“. I finally figured out that I was expecting my body to perform as it used to do when I was much healthier. I’ve had “R” Arthritis and other chronic disorders for twenty-six years. I was used to running here, there and everywhere, pushing myself to the limit in spite of having early Rheumatoid Arthritis. Then came the crash! How disappointing!

The first K.E.S.A. summer golf tournament went down a few weeks ago and several of us ex-students from the High School of Kerens got all of the bright hot sun we could stand. It was hot. In fact, I think you could compare a few hours out in this sunshine as being highly equivalent to smoking a few packs of cigarettes. You think about it. Excessive sun exposure causes cancer. Smoking cigarettes causes cancer. But then again, if you pour enough water down a few thin mice, they will probably swoon sooner or later. In any case, I wore a broad brim hat to keep that sun from burning too badly.

The Serengeti Game Preserve is a long way from Elm Flat, and the last 100 miles are all dirt and washboard gravel roads. Come to think of it, the roads in east Africa are just about like those we grew up with in Elm Flat in the decade of the 1940s and 1950s, only more so. Unless you have a helicopter, however, a rough ride down these dusty roads is the price you pay for going on safari from Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania, out to the Serengeti Plains.

For there are moments when one can neither think nor feel. And if one can
neither think nor feel, she thought, where is one?
