I bet there are a few people out there who want a computer, but the price tag is just a little bit too high. You hear about them, see them in Wal-Mart for around a thousand dollars and maybe see advertisements for complete systems that cost between two and three thousand for a complete home setup. Maybe someone has mentioned to you that you can get one a lot cheaper, but where is this low cost computer? You have never seen one in a store around here with this cheap a price, so is someone pulling your leg?

Books: Monica's Story by Monica Lewinsky

Non-Fiction - Published 1999; 288 Pages; Rating: Good
Great Book! And it had pictures too! Won't tell you what kind of pictures, but they were interesting. A couple of them were of Monica and Bill in the Oval Office and what I am really curious about....who took those pictures?

The smell of grilling hamburgers was drifting along Main Street in Kerens last Saturday and for those of you who were there, wasn’t it great? Courtesy of the Kerens Ex-Students Association, there were French fries, burgers and home made cakes available for all and many stuffed people were seen leaning back in their chairs sharing the gossip of the day. This lunch was originally scheduled to be held at the Garden Park but was moved to the Kerens Volunteer Fire Station for fear of rain on Saturday. Where else but in small town America can the city Fire Station be a central location of community activities? It could not be better.

Let’s go exploring this week and visit a few places we possibly have never been before. Put on your safari jacket, pour yourself a cup of coffee and let’s look at some of the places on the Internet that offer more than what you can find in your newspaper (except for the Kerens Tribune) or your local dollar store (even though Bill’s has quite an inventory of interesting items.) We cannot touch on many today, but stay tuned because more are on the way.

Right now as you are relaxing and reading the Kerens Tribune, there is an immense battle raging all around us with volleys being fired almost everyday. The first technological war of the 21st century is one being fought even more intensely than when we first began to see computers being built for the home. In fact, there is no comparison; this is the big one and wildly interesting to watch as the various strategies by each competitor are being unveiled.

Okay, how about starting an argument today with something wildly controversial? Any column can be ordinary, right? Let’s see, whom would be interesting to argue with today? Hmmmm. How about the Kerens Literary Club? I know they are bound to be opinionated, especially about Literature, so let’s see what we can get started.

I do not recall any movie Michael J. Fox made that was not an enjoyable experience to watch. This is one of his more obscure ones that I do not even recall coming out on the big screen. Maybe it did and I was too busy watching Batman or Superman, I just do not remember. And, it costars one of my other favorite actors, James Woods. He is not a superstar, but then again neither is Michael J. Fox. I read somewhere that before James Woods makes any scene in a movie, he drops to the floor and does a series of pushups. This pumps him up and gives him that nervous look he always has, kind of like Michael J.

I just finished reading the Kerens Tribune from last week and you know what? This was one of the finest most enjoyable issues of the paper I have read in several moons now. It really looked great from a layout and appearance point of view and the content was right in the heart of the city. It just plain made a person proud, Kerens Proud, to be a part of this newspaper and the city it represents. The Tribune Staff has been doing an outstanding job this year of promoting the volunteer efforts going on around Kerens, and maybe sometimes we neglect to tell the staff what a fine professional job they put forth for all of us to read and enjoy.

Did you know the most prolific virus in history was rampaging around the world last week? And what is even more interesting, did you know the name of this virus is the “I Love You” virus? The world gets stranger every day and you just do not know what is going to happen during the week right front of you.

This past weekend the concrete foundation of the Kerens Alumni Center was cleaned and prepared for the next stage of construction. The Kerens Volunteer Fire Department sent a truck and hosed down the slab until it was a sparkling bright Bobcat green. It sure looked nice. The wall and roof structure are complete and the materials to begin the roof and wall covering are on the way. Just a few more weeks now and we will be locking it up at night and preparing for “Home Coming 2000.” I suspect this is going to be one of our greatest “Home Comings” ever, so get ready. It will be here before you know it.

Brutal and realistic is about the best way to describe this book. It covers an incident in Somalia some years ago that foretold what was to come in the future world of Muslim terrorists and murderers.

Every now and then I see one of these books on the bestseller list that hangs around long enough to catch my attention. Here is another one that claims to add twenty years to your life and make you feel like a teenager if you simply follow the simple plan offered between the pages. Problem is, it's just not a whole lot of fun eating soybeans and sprouts three meals a day. That is if you actually get three meals.

I had my first meal at the new “Double D Cafe” in Kerens this past Saturday morning and it was great. Aside from the scrambled eggs being just right, it just plain felt good to be able to sit down in a new eating establishment in Kerens once again and be able to order breakfast from a menu. The new manager, Renea Goetz, was kind enough to let me keep one of the new menu’s and it will be published at Kerens.Com real soon. Has anyone noticed the small print at the bottom of the menu that says: “For complaints, write complaint on a $5 dollar bill. Owner guarantees to handle all complaints?” That was great, but I did not complain about anything. The meal was fine and I got to keep my five dollars in my pocket. Now this is innovation in restaurant management at it’s finest. No doubt about it.

Old robot: What are ye doing?
Bender: We're whaling on the original were-car, which is you, you jerk.
Old robot: Ye think me be he?
Bender: Si.
Old robot: Nee. I mean, no.
