Before the year 1000, the word "she" did not exist in the English language. The singular female reference was the word "heo", which also was the plural of all genders. The word "she" appeared only in the 12th century, about 400 years after English began to take form. "She" probably derived from the Old English feminine "seo", the Viking word for feminine reference

Those monsters were so scary in this movie that the whole theater was hollering several times before the end finally came. The women were covering their eyes and the kids were squealing and hiding. The men were eating peanuts and thinking about the World Series. And when the end did finally arrive in this movie, there was no doubt that “The Grudge II” is somewhere on the horizon just waiting to make you wet your pants. In fact, for movies like these the theater should keep some cheap spare dry pants for their patrons. Wouldn't that be a decent marketing ploy?

randallh writes "As I earlier reported, the Best Buy electronics store in Waco will close at their old location October 31st and reopen November 5th. These are the correct dates. Also Panera Breads that also has baked goods will open it's restaurant in April, but that could change. The Bombay Company, which sells home furnishings, will open it's 4,300 square foot store in the marketplace November 24th. "

Two centuries ago (was it really that long ago?) there was a place called the “Wildcat Ferry” that some of you know exactly where it stood, and some have never heard of at all. Is a “Wildcat” the same thing as a “Bobcat?” I don’t think you would want to pull the tail on either one of them but they do seem to hold a fascination with people around the Trinity River area. I wonder if in the 19th century seeing a Bobcat crossing the road at night around Rural Shade was maybe as common as seeing a rabbit running around these days. So common that no one ever thought anything about it.

randallh writes "There is a new shopping center in Waco, Texas just off Loop 340 and Interstate 35. It has opened several major retail stores including Kohls, Belks, and Old Navy. And with more on the way. Best Buy Electronics that had been near Richland Mall will open their new store November 5th and will close the older store on Waco Drive on November 18th. Also, there will be a new Starbucks Coffee store later in the year."

Biography: ''The First American'' The Life & Times of Ben Franklin by H. W. Brands
|
|
Published: 2000; Pages: 759; Rating: Excellent
Old Ben Franklin. Here is one of those fellows you hear about all the time and has his name associated with so many aspects of our life and our history. Ever heard of the Ben Franklin stove? He invented it during his elderly years because he had trouble keeping himself warm. Is it the fifty dollar bill or the hundred dollar bill he is on? I don’t have either one of them and cannot remember. But there his picture is on the currency even though he was never an American President. But, come to think of it, neither was Alexander Hamilton. Although Alexander may very well have been a President if Aaron Burr had not shot him at the age of 49. That’s another book.

Business: New Water Park In Canton, Texas
|
|
randallh writes "In Canton, Texas where they have the trade days, a 21 acre water park is being planned for that area with a large pool and water slides. I'm sure concessions will be added to the new waterpark. It should be open by next summer."

randallh writes "Up interstate 45 in the town of Ennis, Texas more new businesses are calling the Ellis county town home. A new IHOP restaurant is under construction near Bealls Department Store. A new Walgreens Pharmacy and retail store will cover an entire city block. Two new banks are planned. A 160 unit apartment complex is under way and seven more companys will possibly locate in Ennis, Texas."

Buzz Aldrin was quite an astronaut, and he has many stories to tell, but his talent for telling a story is a little bit lacking in this particular book. I picked this book up off the $4.95 pile at Barnes & Noble one day and I guess the price was an indication it was not selling very well. Plus it had not appeared anywhere on the bestseller lists and I had never heard of the book. Not a good sign, but every now and then you can come across a little jewel in these discard piles. This one was just not one of them. His name caught my eye and it was science fiction, but it was not a well written book and many parts of it were so farfetched that it might have been better categorized as fantasy rather than good hard science fiction. Hard science fiction that is based upon scientific studies, fact, and prophesies are great books and difficult to find. Especially since the decline of Arthur C. Clarke and the passing of Isaac Asimov. Ray Bradbury does not write anything any more and I am not even sure he is still alive.

Mystery: ''The Lovely Bones'' by Alice Sebold
|
|
Published: 2002; Pages: 328; Rating: Great
The Lovely Bones. The title kind of catches you right away doesn’t it when you first spy this book on a shelf or a list. Kind of an oxymoron. The morose sound of “Bones” together with the smile making sound of “Lovely.” This book is a first novel and also by a woman. Normally I don’t pick up anything that smells of mystery and written by the opposite sex because their characters just don’t identify with my hairy legs. I flat cannot stand Patricia Cornwell. Their female heroines typically have painted toe nails. Mine are just kind of plain toenails. They probably get a little too long from time to time more often than women’s toenails do. That’s enough about toenails.

Here is an interesting one about an end of the century Y2K event. You know what that is don't you? Where all the software programs that use only two digits for the year will go from "99" (1999) to "00" (2000). Going from year 99 to year 0 then screws up equalities and who is "less than" and who is "more than" when doing data work. This kind of stuff makes computers go haywire and some had concerns it does not trigger nuclear alarms and mistaken missile launches. Most of the apprehension though surrounded the financial markets. Does that make sense? Probably not.

Business: New Construction At Corsicana HEB Store
|
|
randallh writes "Yesterday I saw that HEB Grocery was doing some work on the store. I have heard that the front of the store could be the business section for the store. Out in the handicapped parking lot they were digging up the handicapped parking places. I guess to make them better. I wish HEB had built a HEB plus like they did in Hewitt, Texas which is a community near Waco, Texas. The new store in Hewitt has much more room to move around in."

randallh writes "There will be a 160 unit apartment complex along with retail stores that the city of Ennis, Texas gave a final ok on. That is good news for that part of Ellis County."

I promise I won’t belch, but later on, well I dunno. Just got through eating a supper made up of leftovers from the Kerens Alumni Center dinner Saturday night and it reminded me of just how good that meal was. When is the last time you had some home made blackberry cobbler with the berries hand picked right here outside of Kerens? I always said Buddy Hughes could do a few things well with his hands, and here was the proof. Spine tingling good, loud hollering good, and even good enough to eat. That is what this dinner was, no doubt about it.

Anonymous writes "There will be in the future new retail restaurants and possibly another new cinema for Cedar Creek Lake. It will be called Richport Commons. That will help Gunbarrel, Texas and Seven Points tax base. Also a new luxury hotel. That area should see more growth over the next few years."

A group of politicians deciding to dump a President because his morals
are bad is like the Mafia getting together to bump off the Godfather for
