Business: New Restaurant Near Gander Mountain
randallh writes "I have heard that a new restaurant called Up The Creek Fish Camp restaurant will be going up in the not too distant future next to the Gander Mountain outdoor retail store on the 132 acre retail project at highway 287. That is more great news for Corsicana, Texas. I'm hoping to see more for that area in 2005."

Column by Dr. Ivan R. Vernon
I think everyone has searched their memory, at one time or another, in an effort to recollect the earliest events of their lives, trying to reconstruct their earliest days. I know that I have done that from time to time, and one of my earliest memories is about the big frog.

Business: New Cracker Barrel Restaurant?
randallh writes "In Corsicana on Highway 287 on the 132 acre retail project where Home Depot and Gander Mountain now call home, a new Cracker Barrel Restaurant may be in the works for that part of town. As you know, Chilis will have a new restaurant that will open hopefully by July 1st. More new businesses are planned for that area with a new Holiday Inn Express going up behind the Sonic Drive Inn on Highway 287. I see more great things for our community."

Growing up on a farm near Kerens meant that we used words a little differently than city folks.
When we said "dinner," we meant the big meal right in the middle of the day. When we said "supper," we meant the meal we ate after work was done before we went to bed at night. In the country there were two big meals--breakfast and dinner. Supper was smaller than breakfast and dinner, mostly something to keep you from starving before you woke up and had breakfast the next morning!

Foxtales: SHE WAS THE QUEEN OF A TURNED PHRASE My Grandmother
Column by Sandra Simmons Fox
Did you ever wonder just how a particular phrase got its start? Well, I have! I should wonder since I was brought up speaking in "coined and cache’ phrases" that were mindfully strung together with a scant few, but very necessary prepositions and things of that sort in order for the phrase to be complete.
My maternal grandmother was truly the "Queen of a turned phrase." I spent a lot of quality time with her, so it was only natural that some of it would rub off on me. Bessie Grant, was her name, and she was a woman after my own heart. We became remarkably devoted, and in all regards just "good ole" gossip buddies.

One thing I forgot to mention hearing at the Alumni Center Sunday Buffet a few days ago is that our Mayor and her husband Larry Christie made a trip to Lake Tahoe recently. Both of them exclaimed how pretty the area is and specifically the hiking trails that abound around this mountainous region. Gail mentioned how she had made it to the top of a trail they had been on, but I am not sure Larry made it. This was probably a very opportune time for him to see these trails and for a good reason. We will get back to this later.

Business: New Retail At Cedar Creek Lake
randallh writes "There may be new retail at Cedar Creek Lake in the near future. At Gun Barrel, Texas along with that there may be another major restaurant in the works. That is great news for an already growing area."

randallh writes "In Malibu, California, the former host of NBC late night television, The Tonight Show's Johnny Carson, has passed away. Mr. Carson was 79. He was a great late night TV host. I'm sure we can all remember Mr. Carson's great TV show with his varied guests. He was one of kind. Nobody has been able to top this very funny and comic genuis. He will be missed by all."

randallh writes "Along the Dobbins Road street there will be a new gated private home community, Dobbins Road Crossing. It will be in the area where the Dobbins Road was completed two years ago by both city and county leaders. It will be great for this area, with maybe more to come in both retail and residential. Also on West Seventh, I'm looking forward to new growth in that area as well for 2005."

Fashion Tips
There has always been a quasi-rule among fashion coordinators. To build the basic wardrobe, one must first have, for instance, camel color, and black. This is just for an example: many other colors will work. You should use only two colors for this example. You might start out with a camel skirt with jacket and matching slacks. Always buy every piece offered in the ensemble, and buy a very good brand…one you trust.

Tribune Columns: Kerens.Com #80 Sunday Buffet At The Alumni Center August 27th, 2001
There were two different kinds of barbecue beef being served plus sausage and ribs and chicken. Hot German Potato Salad, Texas Toast, home made cobblers, spicy beans and Buddy Hughes spooning out ice cream to every one passing by his food station. If you have not had the occasion to make a KESA Sunday Buffet after Church yet, well you may be a couple of pounds lighter, no doubt about it.
