It is not true that the Great Wall of China is the only man-made structure that can be viewed from space - many man-made objects, including the Dutch polders, can be viewed from space.

Foxtales: Sharing Private Things Markings of Mine

Column by Sandra Simmons Fox
For starters, I want to use a few sections from my personal journals that I started writing in high school. "Fox Tales" is the name I gave to the mélange of words that I came, in time, to call a newsletter for want of a distinct word at an extraordinary time in 1995. The end was in sight to stop writing a weekly column for a newspaper. Transition from a weekly news column to a monthly newsletter was a smooth one, as I needed it to be.

When I was a child growing up, our family always had a vegetable garden--every year without fail. Gardening was fun, but our gardens were not just for fun. They were the main source of our food. We ate fresh beans, green peas, radish, onions, okra, cabbage, turnips, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, cantaloupes, watermelons, lima beans, squash, beets, and lots of other things in the spring and summer.

Dixie Bell told a story I heard this weekend about a child that was so poor he only wore his glasses on Sunday. His Mama was afraid if he wore them to school they would end up broken. The story as told by this articulate teacher of many years had a happy ending in that she and her friends were able to provide him with a second pair as an act of kindness. This is one of those stories that makes you think, it makes you feel, and it makes you grateful for everything we have to be so thankful for in this community. Even if you have nothing but a roof over your head, you should pray to the Lord your thanks each and every day for this privilege of the place you call home.

New Amusement Park at Cedar Creek Lake
|
|
randallh writes "In the Cedar Creek Lake area at Seven Points, Texas, there will be in the future a family style fun park with a go cart track, bumper boats, etc. That is good news for the ever growing lake area and I see more new business for that area."

Someone at work with whom I was having a political argument loaned me this book to read. After thumbing through it before diving in, it appears to have been one of his textbooks in college, and you know how dry those kind of books can be. This was certainly no exception. This was about as tough a read as trying to sew with a tire iron.

randallh writes "In Corsicana, Texas is a jewel by the name of The Corsicana Public Library which is run by a fine staff. The computer lab has very good computers. Tony Lively oversees the day to day operation of the lab. If you are looking to surf the internet or use the computers, you must have a library card. Corsicana is very lucky to have these fine people working for the local citizens."

Business: Bill's Fried Chicken On West Highway 22

randallh writes "If you are looking for great food, look no further than Bill's Fried Chicken on West Second Ave near Highway 22. Steve Blackwell and his wife Karen Blackwell have a great restaurant with good down home cooking. For lunch or dinner, stop in soon for a great meal. Their catfish is out of this world and very tasty. "

Laundry day out in the Flat was Monday, so the week started off with a bang. There was no electricity, so there were no washing machines. Pumps also run on electricity, so there was no pump on the well. We drew the water from the well using a rope, pulley, and water bucket. Laundry day, in other words, was fairly labor intensive.

Business: New Restaurant Near Gander Mountain.
|
|
randallh writes "I have heard that a new restaurant chain, Fire Mountain which is owned by Ryans Steakhouse, may be going up next to Gander Mountain on Highway 287 in the 132 acre retail project. It would be right across from the Corsicana Home Depot store. I see more growth in that area and hopefully more new jobs are on their way to Corsicana, Texas and the Navarro County area."

I bought this book at a book store in India once during a three week stay with not much to do on the weekends. They actually had a little coffee shop inside the store just like you find in a Barnes & Noble, but maybe on a little smaller scale. Most of the selections were paperbacks as is this book, but they had some new edition hardbacks as well, just not very many. For example, the Bill Clinton biography “My Life” had just been released while I was in India and they had it in stock shortly after the USA stores received it.

Local News: Kerens Care Center Spring Spectacular a Success!!
|
|
Anonymous writes "The Kerens Care Center Spring Spectacular was a success.
Activity director Dawn Douglas did the planning and preparing for this event, but says she couldn't have pulled it off without the help of her wonderful volunteers and co-workers.
"The kitchen staff and book keeper Sheila Everett were so helpful,I couldn't have done it with out them," said Dawn Douglas. She wanted to say a special thanks also to her volunteers that were there to help, as always, and to Church of Promise, from Tool, for helping all day baking items for the cake walk and for giving all of the residents that are mothers a long stem red rose and a Bible. This made the lady's day. The entertainment was a big success. Everyone enjoyed hearing the beautiful voice of the director of nurses, Chelsea Lundy, and the great Old Time classics performed by the Bobby Fluker Band.

The New Year has arrived and time to start charging down the road to another series of surprises and events that you never thought would happen. Unless you scratch your head and think real hard of course.
The sun has gone down and it is New Year’s Eve right now as this keyboard begins tapping away towards midnight and the year 2002. Someone is on TV singing “New York, New York” and I am contemplating whether or not “I Want To Be A Part Of It.” You know how the words go. Frank Sinatra did.

randallh writes "At the former Super Kmart on West Highway 31, the former retail building will see new life soon with seven or ten new stores locating in that big building. The Sirloin Stockade restaurant will open soon out on Highway 287. The new Chilis restaurant will open this summer and hopefully Cracker Barrel restaurant will open soon. Corsicana National Bank will put a new bank out on Highway 287. I'm glad to see that Corsicana is growing. Maybe more people will have new jobs and employment."
