Local News: Fourth of July Fireworks at the IOOF Park
Local Events randallh writes "It will be a great event for Corsicana with the Fourth of July fireworks show at the IOOF park on 45th street across from the Arbor apartments. Randy Blue and the Full House Band will be there with boot scootin music. There will be a clowns and bounce house for the kids. The event kicks off at 6:00 p.m. with the fireworks display when it gets dark. Don't miss it."

News: Nothing To Do In Corsicana?
News randallh writes "I'm not critical of my home town. but I know there is a lack of things to do in our fair city regardless if you are 19 years of age or 52. We do have the Jester Park pool during the summer, but other towns larger then we are do see a lot of our citizens and their money. Like Cedar Creek Lake over in Henderson County will soon have a family fun park at Seven Points. The Main Place Cinema over there is adding two more movie screens with stadium seating. All I'm saying is if there was more to do in town, more people would spend their money here. It's just an idea."

Foxtales: Painting Good Word Pictures
Foxtales
Column by Sandra Simmons Fox

I’ve mentioned before that I write a monthly newsletter called FOXTALES. It’s simply an extension of my thoughts and feelings that I set up in a newsletter format complete with color art. It is has been very therapeutic to write, just as DOWN MEMORY LANE has been. Writing DOWN MEMORY LANE has been the best thing I’ve ever done, in the way of "doing something for my own personal growth." Recalling helped me clear out the cobwebs of my stored memories that we all have to some extent, I think.

Business: New Texas Restaurant to Open in Hickory Creek, Texas
News Anonymous writes "Up here in North Texas in the Lake Cities there will be a new Texas Land & Cattle Steakhouse restaurant that will open in the future on the west side of Interstate 35 not far from the current Chilis restaurant. That is very good news for a fast growing area. Best Western Motels also has plans to open in the future here in the Lake Cities area."

Monsters: ''The Vision''
by Dean Koontz
The World Of Words Published: 1977; Pages: 204; Rating: Average

Dean Koontz and monsters are fairly synonymous and have been for several years now. For example this book was published in 1977 which is almost 30 years ago and today he is still cranking out about one of these terror stories a year. Some of his books are fairly good and almost all of them start off good. My main complaint is that he lays a good foundation and characterization to begin with but has some trouble tying everything back together and delivering a good climax at the end. He seems to drift a little once he gets the story going.

Business: Corsicana Planning Falls Short
News randallh writes "As you know, Cracker Barrel pulled out of building a new restaurant in our area. If they had built in Corsicana it would bring in new jobs. It seems city planning dropped the ball on this one. Cracker Barrel wanted to build their restaurant their way and Corsicana planning wanted a brick building. "

Foxtales: Highway 31
Foxtales
Column by Sandra Simmons Fox

It was a Sunday morning in 1946 like any other one. I got up, dressed, ate my breakfast, and gathered my things together for Sunday School at the Methodist Church. We lived in a house that faced north, on highway 31. It was a duplex, and we shared it with a lady named Poe. When I questioned mother about who lived there, just to check my memory, she said It was the Crockers. Now I’m really con-fused, because Mrs. Poe taught me to crochet, sitting in chairs out in our front yard. (not a very safe place it turns out) I remember it vividly. If she didn’t live there, she really visited a lot. The house was on the corner, and had a shallow porch, all the way across the front, with only one step up to the porch. Later the root beer stand was on that same spot.

Local News: Target Kohls Best Buy Sam's Club Target
News Anonymous writes "Since Cracker Barrel did not come to Corsicana, Texas, it looks like Target, Kohls, Best Buy, Sam's Club, and CostCo may still be looking at the 132 acre retail site on Highway 287 at Interstate 45. Let's hope we will hear good news for that area."

Getting Ready for Long's Peak
January 26th, 2002
Kerens Tribune Columns “The mountain is closed due to snow and ice conditions” said the Park Ranger and it was then a few hairs on the back of my neck started to stand to attention. Not after all this grueling training and preparation, what an emotional letdown. This could not be.

Have you ever been to Estes Park, Colorado? My parents had made this journey in the past and told me it was the prettiest place in the state, and they were right. The little town of Estes Park sits nestled right in the middle of the Rockies and is surrounded on all sides by year round snow capped mountain peaks.
