Local News: Corsicana Planning and Zoning Drops Ball Again
|
|
randallh writes "It seems that Dollar General wants to build a new store, but the Corsicana planning and zoning voted it down. I don't know the reason why they voted it down. Other cities in our area are glad to have business come to their town. it's a shame that a few people have the power to have things go their way. If it goes on, people in our town will spend their money elsewhere. Maybe at election time we can put people in office that want what's best for Corsicana."

Anonymous writes " Vince Lombardi once said, "Winning isn't everything, but making an effort to win is.
Recently on one of my rare treks east from Waco, and passing through Kerens on the way, Lombardi's words ran through my head.
I could visualize the players in the middle of two-a-days. Between the scorching heat, the puking, and the bells getting rung, it is a time when some soul searchng takes place. Every athlete asks himself, what the hell he is doing out there. But, at the end of it all, a team is formed. It is formed by individuals that refuse to quit, and those that are afraid to quit. There are those that are committed to the effort and those that have passively come along for the ride"

One hundred and four. Fifty-two weeks times two. Each week when I send off a column to Neal Williams at the Tribune, I number the column for reference in the future. Starting with number one early in the year 2000, we have now arrived at exactly two years since the Kerens.Com column was kindly given life by Donna and Neal. For some reason it does not seem that long or that many columns, but here we are in the middle of the rainbow. This has been an interesting two year trip following a path that has wound around and down many different avenues.

Column by Sandra Simmons Fox
I can’t remember just when this event happened. Time seems to go on and on when you’re young. It sometimes makes me wish that I had kept an accurate diary or journal at the time. The only problem with that is that you write in it your most intimate thoughts and experiences, and someone always manages to snoop. It might have helped me keep the names straight. But, heh, I didn’t know then I’d be writing stories in 2005.

A gangster assembled an engineer, a chemist, and a physicist. He explained
that he was entering a horse in a race the following week and the three
assembled guys had the job of assuring that the gangster's horse would win.
They were to reconvene the day before the race to tell the gangster how they
each propose to ensure a win. When they reconvened the gangster started with
the engineer:
Gangster: OK, Mr. engineer, what have you got?
Engineer: Well, I've invented a way to weave metallic threads into the saddle
blanket so that they will act as the plates of a battery and provide
electrical shock to the horse.
G: That's very good! But let's hear from the chemist.
Chemist: I've synthesized a powerful stimulant that disolves
into simple blood sugars after ten minutes and therefore
cannot be detected in post-race tests.
G: Excellent, excellent! But I want to hear from the physicist before
I decide what to do. Physicist?
Physicist: Well, first consider a spherical horse in simple harmonic motion...
