sharonkinsey writes "I am looking for a child's upolstered rocking chair with wooden arms and rockers that was purchased in Kerens, Texas or Corsicana around 1945. Maybe it was purchased at Carroll's Furniture Store. If you have one like this or know of one, please let me know. I had one and have lost it."

Foxtales: Two Personal Things That Can Go Terribly Awry
|
|
Column by Sandra Simmons Fox
For those of you who read my Foxtales, you may have noticed that I haven’t written anything in a while. There are many reasons other than my physical infirmities. Since writing is my favorite thing to do I view that as almost a grand faux pas…but at least a slight omission none the less; unintentional, of course.
I only realized that people really read these stories when a very good friend , who now lives in Houston called me and brought it to my attention that I haven’t written any new stories lately. I Am always so flattered when one of my high school friends calls me. This one is very good about just picking up the phone to see what is going on with me. She has had her own share of physical problems. She is an uplifting person to talk to, because she is so positive.

The day is bright and the day is pretty as Fall begins to peek out from the woods some miles away. The Kerens Blonde pulls a white curtain back and looks outside with a big eyed wistful look. She is getting fidgety. A plodding pace to the wall and then back to the other wall. Maybe wash dishes, maybe wash everyone’s underwear, but it just doesn’t seem exciting on this day, a day that somehow seems brighter than the on before. What to do what to do. With a shake of her head, blonde hair twirling, she purses her lips and muses “Oh if Super Wal-Mart was not so far, far away.”

Local News: Richland-Chambers Lake development auction

Anonymous writes " High-end home sites in Richland-Chambers
Lake development to sell at auction
CORSICANA, TEXAS (May 17, 2006) – From the time he decided to create a high-end subdivision on Richland-Chambers Lake, Chris Lupo had already decided that he would sell the home sites in the development at auction.
Now, after some two years of work, the auction signs are going up, and bidders from all over Texas (and probably well beyond) will gather around a podium on Saturday, June 24, for the auction of 41 sites in Chambers Landing, with J.P. King Auction Company managing the sale.
“We think it’s the fastest way to get these sites into hands of owners who are going to build homes and get the development into full swing,” said Lupo, president of FrontLine Ventures, based in Greenville, S.C."

I told you about the cemeteries around Gettysburg but did not have the space for us to visit the battleground that day. So, let’s put on our Civil War hats and travel back in time by about 140 years give or take a few weekends.
The Battle of Gettysburg lasted for three long and violently bloody days in early July of 1863 with the last day, July 3rd, being the one that is most talked about and generally considered the one where not only this battle, but also the war was won by the North. It is estimated some 8 million rounds of ammunition were fired during the battle, almost incomprehensible to even try to imagine. This is also the day where General George Pickett was ordered by Pete Longstreet to charge, and indeed he did charge right into history.

"Mommy did God make people?"
"Yes Baby, God made people." was my response.
She sat in silence for a moment and then asked,
"Does she have a wand?"
From the thoughts of 4 year old Miss Katarina Cassel."

What a trip to the circus that was this weekend and how exciting it was on a blistering hot August afternoon. Fun and merriment, drink and a hotdog, people everywhere waving their arms with eyes shining in sync with the passion of this annual extravaganza. Oh how did I ever miss the enjoyment of this event during the past few years?
So you did not see this circus in town? Did not even know it had arrived? Well, it was behind closed doors which sort of hid from the outside world what was really going on inside. But, the building does happen to be one of my favorite hangouts, the Wal-Mart Store at College Park Mall. So what was the circus? The annual Tax Free shopping day maybe?

“Where is Texas?” That was the thought rolling around in my mind some minutes after I entered the gates of the Gettysburg National Cemetery a few days ago. All of the gravesites were arranged by state, but no southern states at all were to be found. My biggest surprise for the entire trip happened a short while later when I quizzed one of the park rangers for the location of the Confederate soldiers who had died in this battle. His reply, “No Confederate soldiers were allowed to be buried here.”

I think that all good, right thinking people in this country are sick and
tired of being told that all good, right thinking people in this country are
fed up with being told that all good, right thinking people in this country
are fed up with being sick and tired. I'm certainly not, and I'm sick and
tired of being told that I am!
