Local News: Cotton Patch Buys Former Humbert's Hickory House Lot
rrandyghughes writes "As you all know, The former Humbert's Hickory House restaurant was torn down yesterday. Cotton Patch has no plans at the present time to build on the lot. I was hoping some new business could go in there. Subway Sandwich Shop will have a new restaurant on West Seventh Ave February 1st. The new Subway restaurant will be larger and hold more customers. It will be next to Kentucky Fried Chicken. I'm hoping Corsicana will see new eating places to replace the ones we have lost."

Local News: Former Hickory House Restaurant Torn Down
rrandyghughes writes "I guess all of us at one time or the other has eaten at Humbert's Hickory House. Well, today I drove by the former Humberts and it was being torn down by a bulldozer. That is a shame. I have eaten at that restaurant several times.
Up the street on West Seventh Ave on the left side of the street, PaPa John's Pizza has closed for good. I hope 2008 will bring new retail and restaurants to our fair city."

Business: New Growth Maybe for Corsicana?
rrandyghughes writes "I just read in last Sunday's Corsicana Daily Sun newspaper that several retail companys could call Corsicana home if Corsicana could clean up its act. I don't mean to belittle our town, but there are some spots in town that could be cleaned up. The old buildings that are rusted need to be torn down or replaced. The empty buildings that are near our local highways, maybe something could be done. A lot of our local people shop out of town. Our community is losing over a billon dollars to other areas like Ennis, Waxahachie, and Waco. "

randallhughes writes "If you have driven by West Seventh, there may be a change soon. Walgreens will take over the spot where Gillfallans Hardware Store sits on West Seventh. They will have a retail store and pharmacy too. I hope more change is on the way for our fair city."
randallhughes writes "After seventy years of service to Corsicana snd Navarro Couny, KAND radio will go off the air at the end of 2007. It was a business move by the Northland Cable TV company that also owns Northland Cable TV. Perry Taylor did the local news when the radio station was Located on West Seventh Avenue. It is a sad day indeed to see this fine station go out of business. It not only has local news but also broadcasts the Corsicana Tiger Football games and Navarro College Bulldog games. I will miss it."

randyghughes writes "In the New Year of 2008, you may have to have a digital TV converter to hook up your older analog TV because on February 17th, 2009, the U.S. goverment is wanting to shut off the regular TV signals so broadcasters can broadcast in the digital TV mode. The older TV signals will be used for other uses public safety uses, i.e. wireless cell phones. The Dallas TV stations are broadcasting the digital TV signals now. With a sharper picture and sound, Walmart, here locally, has both high definition and standard definition TVs on sale."
randyghughes writes "Up in Ennis, Texas there are 13 commercial projects going on. There are 3 hotels under construction. Two along highway 45 with the other being built along the highway 287 bypass. A new medical office building is being built. A new surgical center not far from the new Ennis Regional Hospital on the highway 287 bypass. A new 104 unit apartment complex is being built. Also Ennis, Texas may get a new 225 million dollar industry that will provide new jobs for this fair city."

randyghughes writes "KXAS NBC Channel 5 is now broadcasting in High Defintion, but there is a cheaper way to pick up the new digital TV signals. There are video cassette recorders that have new digital TV tuners built into these machines. All of the Dallas Fort-Worth TV stations are now broadcasting the new signals. If your outside TV antenna is fairly new, you can pick up the new signals with your current TV and the videocasette recorders that have the new digital TV tuners built in."

It just so happens that Wingstop Chicken Wings has over 60 Wingstop Wings chicken restaurants in the Dallas, Fort Worth Metroplex. I'm looking forward to their grand opening."
randyghughes writes "Well I'm sure all of us are waiting for cooler weather and a nip in the air. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year when it rains a little bit more and the leaves start changing on the trees. Also I look forward to the State Fair of Texas in Big D to see the animals, the people, and the auto show, both the domestic and import cars. I also start thinking about the holidays and being with family & friends."
randyghughes writes "The Athens, Texas YMCA, which opened in the Cain Center in 1974, will be closing soon. That is a real shame. They had a lot of good programs for people of Henderson County and East Texas. They will be missed."
randyghughes writes "I drove by Gillfillans Hardware the other day on West Seventh and saw a realty sign in front of this business. Could it be a new retail store like Walgreens coming in? Guess we will have to wait and see."
randyghughes writes "There will be a new Dollar General store on West Second Avenue just west of 15th Street. It should be open sometime next year. Also there seems to be some work going on at the former Lester Easley Grocery store. Jim Roby bought the store not long ago and then it closed a few months ago. I will let you know when i hear what this former store will be?"
