Local News: Big Tex at the State Fair
Local Events randyghughes writes "If you are going to the State Fair of Texas this weekend in Dallas, you may notice the big guy with the ten gallon western hat, shirt, and jeans. He was once the big Santa Claus in Kerens, Texas. He welcomed many a visitor to this nice town in eastern Navarro County along east highway 31. By the way, the State Fair starts this Friday and ends on October 22nd. Gee, I can smell those Fletcher corny dogs now."

Local News: New Kerens Library
Local Events betty writes "At long last , work has begun in earnest on the new library for the Kerens area. After a ground breaking last month, the contractor, Hays Construction Co, began work on the foundation. Presently the foundation has been poured, and work on framing has begun. The building should be finished in December or early January.

We will have six public computers with high speed internet access, pleasant surroundings for reading periodicals or checking out books, and a meeting room that will be available for classes, small meetings, or other activities. Exhibit space will be in the foyer for displays of local history or interests.

We would love to hear your suggestions for activities at our library and have you come in for a visit with us now or in the new building.

Don't forget the annual Cotton Harvest Festival is October 20. All proceeds benefit the library. "

Squatty Pines Storytelling Festival, March 2-4, is a weekend for storytellers and story listeners to gather ‘round and share exciting and evocative stories for all ages. This year, the festival is celebrating its 10th year and features Willy Claflin, Shelly Kneupper-Tucker and the E-Flat Porch Band in one of the most accessible and easy-going story festivals in the region.

Camp Tyler, on the shores of Lake Tyler, is the setting for tale-telling, folk-singing, story-swapping and imagination-boosting workshops. The weekend begins with dinner at the camp at 5:00 pm on Friday, March 2 and a “concert” of story and song beginning at 6:30. Late night story swaps by the fireplace in the camp lodge wrap up the first day. "

Business: Corsicana Planning and Zoning Drops Ball Again
Local Events randallh writes "In Corsicana, Texas on Highway 22 would have been a good place for a Dollar General store since there is little retail out there and would have brought in tax dollars to this community. I hope in the future we will put people on that planning board that are for the betterment of Corsicana. You can't keep saying no to new businesses that want to locate in this area. Maybe cooler heads will win out."
