I Didn't Know
It is not true that the Great Wall of China is the only man-made structure that can be viewed from space - many man-made objects, including the Dutch polders, can be viewed from space.

And Now You Do

Book of Proverbs
23:2, And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

Local News: New Radio Station in Dallas
News rrandyghughes writes "If you long for the good old days, there is a radio station in Dallas with 50s, 60s, and 70s music.

Ron Chapman is back on the radio airwaves at Platinum 96.7 with the music you grew up listening to. Ron Chapman hosted the longtime Dallas TV music show, Sumpn Else, from a TV studio at Dallas Northpark shopping center. He then went on KVIL 103.7 and did a radio show with longtime co host Suzy Humphries and then to KLUV 98.7. Give the new station a listen."

Local News: Why is Corsicana Losing Out to Other Cities?
News rrandyghughes writes "A few months ago we had a retail guy and former Corsicana resident telling us about some of the sore spots that keep us from moving forward. Some of the entry ways into town have old buildings, old cars, & overgrown weeds. I don't mean to be a critic, but other towns like Ennis and Waxahachie already have in place the tax abatement monies to draw new retail and businesses into their fair cities. If we want to progress, we have to move forwards, not backwards. Only then can we hope to compete with these other towns."

Local News: A Thank You To Everyone For Voting For Me
Notices southerncrossranch writes "Well folks, I am proud to say this contest is over and I have lost so in a way I feel I have won because 42 of you came out to vote for me. And for a new comer in your area, that is not too bad a first time out.

So thank you to each and every one who voted for me this time. I am honored that we ran a clean campaign and there is always next year. I do intend to run again for you and your children so lets get behind our school board and give them all the support we can. And next year my name will once again be on the ballot, so thank you one and all for a job well done.

David C. Hubbard"

Local News: Mr. John McCormick's Lost Ring Notice
Notices southerncrossranch writes "I was looking at a notice that was online dated on my birthday December 28' 2007 from Mr. John McCormick asking if anyone knew of a lady who graduated in 1967 from Kerens High School.

I went to the library and looked up the 1967 Seniors and came across Jennifer Clay. She was the only girl in the class with the initials that were inside the ring. The only other name I recognized was Kay Bain's. This is Bobby Bain's cousin. So if they were seniors together, maybe she will know the where abouts of the former Jennifer Clay. It did not have the middle name listed, but inside the ring was the letters JLC, so i assume it is this girl. And if anyone knows the Clay family, please let them know this man has their daughter's ring.

His email is: onejohnmccormick@yahoo.com"

News grejos writes "The city of Corsicana is currently in negotiation with the proposed Elk Creek Power Plant's owners, LS Power Development-- subsidiary of Dynergy, for one of two gas-fired plants to be built in Richland, TX. The proposed plant will spew toxins into the air that are fully reported, in documents available from the Environmental Protection Agency, to cause aggravation of respiratory and heart ailments, cause the increased decay of buildings, and contribute significantly to acid rain. Sulfur Oxides/acids, Nitric Oxides/acids, and Carbon Monoxides released by the proposed plant will also change the chemical makeup of soil, causing decreased crop yields, and severely impact the health of livestock."

Local News: New Taco Bell Restaurant on Highway 287
News rrandyghughes writes "In the not too distant future there will be a new Taco Bell Restaurant on Highway 287. That is good news. Already there is a Wendys and Chilis on the 132 acre retail site. Hopefully there will be more good eating places on that major highway. I was also hopeing Corsicana could see a major new cinema out there with stadium seating and dolby digital sound. That would be fantastic. I'm hoping we will hear good news in 2008 for our fair city."

Local News: Cotton Patch Buys Former Humbert's Hickory House Lot
News rrandyghughes writes "As you all know, The former Humbert's Hickory House restaurant was torn down yesterday. Cotton Patch has no plans at the present time to build on the lot. I was hoping some new business could go in there. Subway Sandwich Shop will have a new restaurant on West Seventh Ave February 1st. The new Subway restaurant will be larger and hold more customers. It will be next to Kentucky Fried Chicken. I'm hoping Corsicana will see new eating places to replace the ones we have lost."

Local News: Former Hickory House Restaurant Torn Down
News rrandyghughes writes "I guess all of us at one time or the other has eaten at Humbert's Hickory House. Well, today I drove by the former Humberts and it was being torn down by a bulldozer. That is a shame. I have eaten at that restaurant several times.

Up the street on West Seventh Ave on the left side of the street, PaPa John's Pizza has closed for good. I hope 2008 will bring new retail and restaurants to our fair city."

Local News: Lost Ring!!!
Notices johnmccormick writes "I have a story that begins about 40 years ago. I was in a nightclub and met this really nice girl. We hit it off immediately and we planned to get together in the near future. She gave me her class ring and phone number and told me to call her for a date. I was careless and lost her phone number with her name and could not call her and I had her ring.

I felt devastated as I had lost my ring earlier. I put her ring in my drawer and time passed. A lot of time. I was looking in an old jewelry box and found her ring and called Balfour (The manufacturer of the ring) and they did not have records that went that far back. I am trying my best to return this ring to the nice lady that gave it to me. I am not a stalker and will gladly give it to a third party that I know will make sure that she gets it. Maybe the current principle of Kerens High School where she graduated. The initials inside the ring are JLC and the year she graduated was 1967. I still remember that she reminded me of the actress Jill Claberg from Silver Streak. If any one can get in touch with her and tell her to have the principal e-mail me I will gladly return the ring with my best wishes and apology for taking so long to return it.

My name is John McCormick and my e-mail address is onejohnmccormick@yahoo.com."
