I Didn't Know
Before the year 1000, the word "she" did not exist in the English language. The singular female reference was the word "heo", which also was the plural of all genders. The word "she" appeared only in the 12th century, about 400 years after English began to take form. "She" probably derived from the Old English feminine "seo", the Viking word for feminine reference

And Now You Do

Book of Proverbs
19:2, Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.

Big Screen Movies randallh writes "Yesterday at the RAVE Cinema, I went to see the followup to Oceans 11. It was quite good. The movie had some comical moments as well with a lot of twists and turns. A great movie and I highly recommend it. Danny Ocean scores another great movie. Go see it when it comes to your local movie house. I give it five stars."

Movies: ''The Grudge''
Big Screen Movies Released: 2004; Rating: Excellent

Those monsters were so scary in this movie that the whole theater was hollering several times before the end finally came. The women were covering their eyes and the kids were squealing and hiding. The men were eating peanuts and thinking about the World Series. And when the end did finally arrive in this movie, there was no doubt that “The Grudge II” is somewhere on the horizon just waiting to make you wet your pants. In fact, for movies like these the theater should keep some cheap spare dry pants for their patrons. Wouldn't that be a decent marketing ploy?

Movies: LA Story
Big Screen Movies randallh writes "This Sunday afternoon I saw a very funny two hour movie. It is about the off beat style of Los Angeles. It stars Steve Martin, Victoria Tennant, Marilu Henner, and the star of the movie is an electronic road sign. What a hoot. It was very good. The movie is several years old so it may be on videocasette or DVD. I liked it."

Movies: Moon Over Parador
Big Screen Movies randallh writes "The other night I saw a very funny two hour movie. It was called "Moon Over Parador." Richard Dreyfuss played the dictator Alphonse Sims. Raul Julia played Parador's stongman Roberto Strassman. The late Sammy Davis Jr. had a cameo role in the movie. It was an excellent movie. Try to rent this movie on tape or DVD. I highly recommend it."

Movies: Always
Big Screen Movies randallh writes "Last Sunday night I saw a wonderful two hour movie with John Goodman, Holly Hunter, and Richard Dreyfuss. It's about a guy who flies planes to put out forest fires. It will make you laugh and cry at the same time too. Brad Johnson, a Lewisville, Texas native, is also very good in this great movie. It will teach you lessons about love and life. I highly recommend this movie."

Movies: Now And Then - The Movie.
Big Screen Movies randyh writes "Last night on TV I watched a really good movie. It was about four girls who grew up as friends. The movie starred Demi Moore, Rosie O'Donnell, Rita Wilson, and Melanie Griffith. It was about the trials and joys of life. The movie showed how to cherish friends and family, a great two hour movie. I really enjoyed watching it. If you have a chance rent this movie on dvd."

Movies: The Alamo
Big Screen Movies Released: 2004; Rating: Good

This movie is bombing at the box office, but it was a fairly good flick. Especially if you like history and of course if you have a passing interest in Texas. The beginning of the effort to make this supposedly epic movie was shot through and through with controversy when the original director turned it down because the Disney studio would not give him enough money. I think he wanted around $125 million and the studio was willing to pay only the paltry sum of $100 million. The director was Ron Howard and he had obtained a commitment from Russell Crowe as well to play Davy Crockett. That would have been a great movie. Ron also wanted to make it a realistic R rated movie as well in the same vein as "Saving Private Ryan" when it came to actual combat. But oh well, we got a relatively cheap product because the studio got cheap.

Movies: Hidalgo
Big Screen Movies Released: 2004; Rating: Excellent

This is the first appearance by Viggio Mortenson since the final installment of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. You remember him don’t you? He was the “King” in the “Return of the King.” The main man, the head honcho, the one that wrapped up Liv Tyler, and the one they called “Strider.”

It was a little difficult at first seeing him playing a Cowboy in this almost western movie after seeing him for the last three years as a Middle Earth player amidst goblins, hobbits and elves. But, after a few minutes and after a few quick draws, his older persona began to fade away. Him and his horse both played excellent parts and maybe both will get some awards. By the way, Hidalgo is the name of the horse, not Viggio’s character. His character’s name was Frank Hopkins, a real American name.

Movies: Cabin Fever
Big Screen Movies Released: 2003; Rating: Good

Here it is, the next incarnation of your classic horror movie with a group of teenagers that have a hard time making it to the end of the movie. And speaking of the end of the movie, surely you have noticed that the length of these two dollars flicks is determined solely by the number of teenagers with which you begin the movie. No doubt about it.

Movies: Johnny English
Big Screen Movies Released: 2003; Rating: Terrible

Now I have seen some bad movies before, but last night I saw a horrible one. Some of these slapstick comedies they make are reasonable, but never great. Some of them are bad but rarely terrible. Well this one was terrible.

"Johnny English" was the name of it starring the world famous Mr. Bean. At least I think he is world famous, his name is recognizable. The plot line is that we have a British Secret Agent from MI-7 in the tradition of what actually is a great character, Mr. James Bond. But, this one is a spoof filled with gags, fall down gimmicks, and a good looking girl that tried to play a serious part in a dumb movie. You know when I think of dumb, a good slapstick flick does come to mind, and that one is "Dumb and Dumber." That was a good one with Jim Carrey.

Movies: The Hard Way
Big Screen Movies Released 1991; Rating: Excellent

I do not recall any movie Michael J. Fox made that was not an enjoyable experience to watch. This is one of his more obscure ones that I do not even recall coming out on the big screen. Maybe it did and I was too busy watching Batman or Superman, I just do not remember. And, it costars one of my other favorite actors, James Woods. He is not a superstar, but then again neither is Michael J. Fox. I read somewhere that before James Woods makes any scene in a movie, he drops to the floor and does a series of pushups. This pumps him up and gives him that nervous look he always has, kind of like Michael J.

Movies: Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King
Big Screen Movies Released: 2003; Rating: Outstanding

Finally after waiting for another entire year this trilogy born from a great novel has hit the big screen. What a great movie it turned out to be with the only disappointing item being that it was not released on a DLP screen. If you have never seen a movie shot in digital DLP format, you are missing a real treat for movie buffs. There are two of these screens in Dallas. One at the Cinemark Legacy Theatre just north of Plano on HIghway 75, and there is another that I have never located or visited. DLP was an invention of Texas Instruments by the way.

Movies: The Last Samarai
Big Screen Movies Thomas writes "Released: 2003; Grade: Excellent

The movie is an epic that sweeps all the way from the Civil War to the battlefields of Japan. From Civil War soldiers to the soldier Samurai and his only weapon, the sword.

Excellent movie and I thought Tom Cruise did a good job, maye even an Oscar winning job. At first I was not impressed with Cruise because he does not have any kind of a Japanese aura of honorability around him. In fact, in the beginning he is nothing but an alcoholic drunk haunted by memories of Indian massacres while he was in the Yankee army."

And It Was Said
Quotes A boy scout troop went on a hike. Crossing over a stream, one of
the boys dropped his wallet into the water. Suddenly a carp jumped, grabbed
the wallet and tossed it to another carp. Then that carp passed it to
another carp, and all over the river carp appeared and tossed the wallet back
and forth.
"Well, boys," said the Scout leader, "you've just seen a rare case
of carp-to-carp walleting."
