2007 BSA-BTFFL Draft Review by J. R. Ewing, Jr. The 18th Annual BSA-BTFFL Draft was held Saturday, September 1st, 2007 at the Kerens Bank Community Room. All members were present. Draft weekend started Friday night with a Texas Hold 'Em tournament at the house of the Clippers. The Dukes won for the second consecutive year, and the Clippers took home second place money. Draft day started Saturday at 9:00 A. M. James Kelly (former coach and school principal) paid his annual visit, and Leroy's grandson Tyler Lee was there for the second year to provide his grandfather with expert assistance. (The Quicksix will need it since they are in the same division as the Dukes.) Lonnie Lawrence also had a friend visiting, but we didn't get his name. Lunch was furnished by the Double D Steakhouse of Kerens. Thanks go to David Foreman and Debra Franklin and the Double D Staff for preparing and delivering the meal. Many compliments were voiced regarding the outstanding fried chicken. The Killers were recognized as last year's champion, but the Commissioner didn't let him speak (the same thing happened to the Dukes when they last won). The speech from the 2006 Cellar King (last place finisher) Harry Pease and the Rattlers was short and humble. There were no rule changes this year. Teams were reminded that the league will continue to draft twelve players, and during the week prior to the first game, each team will claim one player via the waiver wire to increase their total roster size to thirteen. This roster size will be maintained throughout the season. Harry Pease and the Rattlers again provided unique team identifiers to be drawn out of a hat for draft position. After all rules discussions ended, the 2006 Super Bowl Champ, Mike Armstrong, drew the first identifier out of the hat, and Harry Pease and the Rattlers were awarded the number one pick for 2007. Harry had earlier proposed a rule that would allow the previous year Cellar King to get the number one draft choice. After everyone realized that he was last year's Cellar King, this rule was shot down real fast. Then the Killers turn around and draw the Rattlers name out of the hat anyway. As another writer stated last year, if Mark Drain was still a member, we would have heard "Collusion!" echoing off the walls. A good time was had by all. So, until next year, "I'm All In!".
